one-to-one classes: potters wheel
classes are now fully booked for the 2024!
there will be a break in classes between october - january, as the studio gets a little chilly! if you'd like to enquire about booking a class from january 2025 onwards, please get in touch here.
are you looking to get creative with clay? fancy trying your hand at the potters wheel? or just learn some pottery basics?
join me in my home studio in colchester, essex for a tailored, private session to learn the basics of working with clay! this class option is for those who want to try their hand at the potters wheel, to learn the foundations of throwing.
each session is 2 hours, and bookable via this listing. you can book a single session for an introduction to the potters wheel, or multiple sessions to cover more parts of the making process (such as attaching handles and glazing). i’d also be happy to tailor these sessions to those who are already familiar with the potters wheel & would like to refine their skills, or if you’d like a little refresher class.
—
here is an example of what multiple sessions would look like, but classes can be adapted to each individual (for example, if you’d like to learn how to make a mug you’ll need to book 2 sessions):
session 1: the basics (2 hours)
learning the basics of working with clay & an overview of the making process from start to finish. prepping & wedging clay, and a basic foundation to throw a cylinder on the potters wheel.
session 2: adding flair (2 hours)
after an intro session, you will explore more aspects of the making process such as adding handles/shapes to your work, surface decoration (ie carving) and decorating with underglaze. you can also use your second session to practice further on the potters wheel, and have a go at throwing different forms (such as a bowl shape).
session 3: adding colour (2 hours)
glaze your own work – choose from a range of glazes, explore wax-resist decoration & handpainting patterns with underglaze.
additional drop-in sessions (2 hours) - bookable here
after your third session, you can book top-up drop-in sessions to further explore & build on the techniques you have learnt. i will be on hand to assist & answer questions, but these additional sessions are largely for you to work on your own personal projects.
—
once you have booked your session/s and indicated your availability via the popup form once you add your classes to your cart, i will be in touch to confirm the finer details (eg: dates & times, as well as tailoring sessions to you if required).
please note:
the price of sessions includes all materials & firing of up to 3 pieces you create during our time together.
if you book multiple classes, you will be working on the same pieces to refine and finish them. ideally:
sessions 1 + 2 would be a minimum of 3 days & maximum of 1 week apart.
session 3 will be at least 1 week after session 2, to allow time for firing your work so it’s ready to glaze.
you must be 18+ years old to book & attend these classes.
